The Exercise of Will

Simply stated, you have a two-phased challenge: First, decide how you want to act when you encounter local conditions that motivate you to use the incentive.  Second, learn to act in accord with that decision despite the influence of local conditions.

The faculties required to exercise will emerge from a developmental passage that includes encounters with a wide range of high-risk situations. During these critical moments, you will have the opportunity to observe the cause-and-effect principles that govern your actions under such circumstances.

An important aspect of exercising will is learning how to shift from a mindless, state-dependent trance to a mindful, dispassionate trance, from which you can appreciate your core motivation and act accordingly.

This web site contains thought experiments  and invitations to trance formation free of charge. The Path of Greatest Advantage is our mulitmedia treatment manual designed to guide you through the developmental passage from dependence to self-determination. The procedural skills that emerge as you work with these exercises is irreversible.

Engaging the trance formative exercises will enhance your ability to manipulate experiential phenomena intentionally. The cognitive and behavioral tools will enhance your ability to act as intended during crises—without seeking an incentive, or another external agent, to help you cope with the events that happen in your life.

Addictive traps are easy to fall into and hard to escape.  There is no single solution, because each Individual has a different problem to solve.  Some people are more likely to succeed than are others.  In general, Individuals who are smart and perseverant have the best chance of achieving good long-term outcome, and our approach is designed for that small subset (as you have probably concluded by this point, the content requires at least college level reading skills).

There is quite a bit of variance among even this small set of individuals. Hyperlinks allow each user to navigate the material in a way that best matches his or her needs and interests.  Some users do best navigating their way through the material as rapidly as possible to find the specific information or tools they seek, while others do best proceeding thoroughly and systematically.  There is no correct path.  You are the one to judge how to apportion your time and attention.  The only rigid requirement of this approach is that once you take on this challenge you must persevere until you accomplish what you set out to accomplish.
